Thanks, you guys. I don't know what I'm doing with sun position at all - I just try random numbers till something looks better than it did before. :-)

You can try doing a single object that has some height (skyscraper) then experiment with the different positions to see the changes in the shadows. Think in terms of 360 degrees for the azimuth a full circle starting a the top ( I think north pole) and circling the earth (south pole would be 190 degrees). then the altitude is how high the sun is above the horizon. (Or below) My logic may be flawed but it has worked for me.
