thank you all, and great reply @lespaulguy! I hadn't seen the movie since it came out, but yeah, what a good one! When I saw it as a teenager, I remember that at the end, everyone just sat still and quiet in the theater until the lights came up. Never experienced that before or since.

Also, thanks to IMDb I learned that one of the actors in the film is named Frederick Treves, and he is the great nephew of the actual Dr. Treves.
